Inherited Lipidemia Panel
This panel provides a comprehensive genetic analysis of genes associated with inherited lipidemias, a group of conditions characterized by abnormal levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and/or triglycerides.
Abnormal lipid levels can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and cardiovascular events and may contribute to additional health complications. Identifying an underlying inherited cause may help healthcare professionals develop an appropriate monitoring and treatment strategy.
Because different inherited lipidemias can have overlapping clinical features, comprehensive genetic testing allows for an efficient evaluation of multiple potential disorders based on a single clinical indication.
Genetic testing may help:
- Identify an inherited cause of abnormal lipid levels
- Confirm or clarify a suspected diagnosis
- Assess potential cardiovascular risk

CETP and LIPG Variants
Certain variants in the CETP and LIPG genes are associated with elevated HDL cholesterol levels. These may be reported as “benign, reportable variants.”
Benign, reportable variants may help explain an elevated HDL cholesterol level identified on a lipid profile but are not known to cause symptoms or an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
These variants are not eligible for family variant testing. However, when full-gene testing of CETP or LIPG is requested, applicable benign, reportable variants will be included in the test report if identified.

Genetic test results should be interpreted in conjunction with the individual's lipid profile, medical history, family history, and other clinical findings. Genetic testing should not replace appropriate cardiovascular risk assessment or medical management.
