Comprehensive Aortopathy Panel
This panel provides a comprehensive genetic analysis of genes associated with inherited aortopathy and related cardiovascular and connective tissue conditions. It includes genes associated with isolated thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections (TAAD) as well as multi-system disorders in which aortopathy may be one of several clinical features.
Because different inherited aortopathy conditions can have significant clinical and genetic overlap, it may be difficult to determine the underlying genetic cause based solely on an individual's symptoms, imaging findings, or family history. Comprehensive panel testing allows for an efficient evaluation of multiple potential genetic causes based on a single clinical indication.
Genetic testing may help:
- Identify an inherited predisposition to aortic disease
- Confirm or clarify a suspected diagnosis
- Determine the underlying genetic cause of aortopathy
- Assess potential risks for aortic aneurysm or dissection
- Guide cardiovascular surveillance and medical management
- Support individualized risk-reduction strategies
- Inform family planning and genetic counseling
- Identify potentially affected relatives who may benefit from genetic testing
- Support appropriate evaluation and monitoring of at-risk family members
The results of genetic testing should be interpreted alongside the individual's medical history, family history, cardiovascular imaging, and other clinical findings to develop an appropriate management and surveillance plan.
Testing Consideration:
For individuals whose clinical presentation suggests a broader hereditary connective tissue disorder, additional or alternative genetic testing may be appropriate. Test selection should be based on the patient's specific clinical features and the healthcare provider's assessment.
